Meet some of the people that make up Nordea Markets

Our people come from different educational backgrounds, and they all offer something unique to the company. Here, some of them talk about their work and challenges at our Stockholm office.

"It might sound a bit like a cliché, but not two days are the same"

My job

As an analyst in Investment Solutions I’m ultimately responsible for the secondary market for our products that we sell to brokerage firms and institutions. It’s also my job to make sure that our customers receive daily and monthly valuations, and that all elements are in place in time ahead of issuing a product.

My typical workday

My day always starts with me sending out valuations of our products so that our customers can retrieve them. These are then updated throughout the day depending on how much the market fluctuates. I also receive and execute deals from our customers when they want to sell back a product, so you could say I’m the link between our customer and the trading desk.

Also, I have lots of contact with our legal advisors and our execution desk regarding new and old products. It might sound a bit like a cliché, but not two days are the same. Sometimes, there is a lot going on in the market, so valuations can change quite a bit and then I’m in frequent contact with our trading desk. On other days, we might be at the very beginning of an issue, and then I might be working a lot on terms and conditions and talking to our legal advisors.

My background

I studied economics and finance at the University of Linköping and started as a graduate here in Markets in June 2012. While I was studying I spent six months at the Warsaw School of Economics and was also involved a lot in projects besides my studies.

How I got here

While I was studying, I worked for Nordea in the branch network, and that’s when Nordea Markets caught my attention. When I saw the ad on the website I sent in an application straight away, and the ball started rolling.

Outside my job

I like working out, meeting friends and cooking. I’ve also spent a lot of my life at riding stables and show jumping venues around Sweden.

"We analysts are expected to be Nordea’s “village geniuses”, so we have to be able to describe everything going on"

My job

My role involves acting as an intermediary between our macro economists and market pricing. I attempt to translate Nordea’s beliefs about the economic trend into financial pricing in order to potentially detect any anomalies and discern the future.

I assist Nordea’s sales function while acting as a contact person for Nordea’s foreign exchange and fixed income customers.

My typical workday

I spend a great deal of time reading and writing. We analysts are expected to be Nordea’s “village geniuses”, so we have to be able to describe, in a good way, everything going on and be familiar with the current market theme. We also have to be able to weed out the market noise and temporary phenomena in order to better see what’s going on that could affect market prices in the long term. Half of my time is spent on meeting customers and discussing their issues and any hedging decisions they might envisage taking.

My background

I’ve studied political science and economics at the University of Karlstad. I used to be a Nordea customer; I traded in fixed income securities and foreign exchange products while dealing with different risk books at various internal banks in Stockholm.

How I got here

I had some great contacts and wanted to sharpen my own professional profile, from treasury to analyst. Luckily, there was a place for me.

Outside my job

I have two children under 7 years old, so I have no leisure time, really.

"In my job I follow around twenty companies in a handful of sectors"

My job

I provide credit ratings in the form of shadow ratings for companies active on the corporate bond market. The role is directed at our customers; I assess the credit quality of companies and set it in relation to the pricing of their issued bonds. So, there are similarities with an equity analyst, but the difference is that I do not look at the value of a share, but instead of a debt instrument.

My typical workday

Working on a new issue is highly intensive and takes a few weeks, and during that time I have to set many other duties aside. If I’m not working on a new issue, the job is about monitoring and providing comments and recommendations.

In my job I follow around twenty companies in a handful of sectors. I monitor earnings reports and company events and comment on events for our customers based on credit quality and price. I also monitor the credit market at large, and comment on major market-moving events.

My background

I trained as a naval reserve officer in the navy, where I worked as a naval artillery officer. I also hold a Master’s degree in economics from the University of Uppsala focusing on economics and statistics.

How I got here

After getting my civil degree I worked for a year at another bank before I started as a junior in macroeconomic research. Since then, I’ve worked as an analyst in different parts of the research function of Nordea Markets, including the foreign exchange and fixed income markets.

Outside my job

I’ve just bought a house, so a lot of my free time is spent on that. I also try to work out regularly, cycling and doing cross-country skiing.
