Meet our people

Meet some of the people that make up Nordea Markets

Nordea Markets’ employees come in all shapes and sizes, with different ages and backgrounds. Many at Nordea Markets also have different positions within the company, some shared with many others and some unique. But despite all this we all share the common feature that we’re very good at what we do, and that we always try to do our jobs as well as we possibly can every single day.

Here, some of them talk about their work and backgrounds.

Frida Rustøen

Work Location: Oslo
Born: 1986
Education: M.Sc. Economics
Career area: Interest rate derivatives sales

"I've gradually attained new responsibilities at Nordea, and after about a year I started handling clients directly"

The position

The sales manager is responsible for a client portfolio with limited complexity. He or she makes independent assessments in connection with the performance of specific tasks.

My job

I've been working with interest rate derivatives sales in Oslo since 2011. I mainly provide large Norwegian corporates and hedge funds with hedging and speculation strategies to help manage their interest rate portfolios. I also assist other brokers in Norway with pricing and booking of trades, participate in employer branding activities and perform complex risk calculations and market analyses.

My career

I started as an assistant sales manager in Nordea Markets right after graduation. My main responsibilities were to assist my colleagues in Oslo and other areas of Norway in their everyday work. I have taken various courses, including Nordea’s Sales Academy in Copenhagen and Norwegian Society of Financial Analysts’ (NFF) Fixed Income Analysis programme. I've gradually attained new responsibilities at Nordea, and after about a year I started handling clients directly.

Outside my job

I love travelling and spending time with friends and family.

The best thing about being here

The best thing about my job is the continuous learning through new challenges, a wide variety of tasks, and collaboration with highly skilled and professional colleagues and clients.

Ahti Koskilahti

Work Location: Helsinki
Born: 1988
Education: M.Sc.
Career area: Analyst in Investment Banking

"If I were a samurai, both Excel and PowerPoint would be my trusted samurai swords"

The position

The analysts form the foundation for much of our work. Analysts provide the research that key decisions in our Investment Banking Advisory are based on and also make independent assessments within their areas of expertise. Responsibilities include training of assistant analysts.

My job

As an analyst at Nordea Investment Banking Advisory I’m exposed to the key disciplines of corporate finance, such as mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs, initial public offerings and other equity offerings. We often work in small teams of two to five members. There’s a lot of responsibility and hard work, but the reward is the chance to work on high-impact transactions. It’s well worth the effort.

My typical workday

My days are usually packed with conference calls and different kinds of meetings with company boards and senior management. Before, between and after these calls and meetings, I’m preparing in-depth analysis material on which our clients base their key decisions. That’s what I hope, at least. One banker once compared investment bankers to samurais. If I were a samurai, both Excel and PowerPoint would be my trusted samurai swords.

Outside my job

I spend a lot of time with family and friends. During the summer I spend most of my free time on a golf course and winter holidays are reserved for ice hockey and gym workouts. It’s great to use your body sometimes.

The best thing about being here

Being one of the largest Nordic banks gives you many advantages in terms of recognition and resources. As an integrated investment bank we can offer our clients a package deal of financing, advisory and other related services - something that helps make my daily job easier and more efficient.

Anna Magne

Work Location: Stockholm
Born: 1985
Education: M.Sc.
Career area: Sales Manager in Currency

"As a sales manager my days vary since I’m regularly on the move"

My job

I work as a sales manager in Currency on Markets’ trading floor. In more concrete terms, I help companies to manage their foreign exchange risks by providing hedging strategies tailored to the companies’ operations and exposure. Another part of the role is to provide foreign exchange rate prices for customers because currencies are traded OTC and not on an exchange. We work with products such as spots, futures, swaps and different types of option solutions.

My typical workday

As a sales manager my days vary since I’m regularly on the move. I usually try to start my day at the office to read about what has happened on the markets overnight, and join our daily morning meeting. Many of our customers call in wanting advice about rates or help with carrying out transactions, so I spend a lot of time on the phone when I’m in the office. I often have at least one meeting each day, maybe a customer lunch and sometimes an evening event with a few customers. A large part of the job is getting to know our customers and their operations, so it’s important to meet up fairly often.

My background

I did an MSc in Finance at the University of Lund and joined Nordea Markets as a graduate straight after that. During my entire time at Nordea Markets, I’ve worked with foreign exchange customers which, over time, have become larger and more complex.

How I got here

I worked at Nordea’s customer centre and a few different advisory branches while I was studying. When I started to apply for jobs, I attended a networking event with Nordea Markets in Malmö. That gave me the opportunity of getting to know some of their employees and I applied for the position of graduate after that.

Outside my job

When I have the time I like to spend it with friends and family. I also love skiing and working out.

Career area: Fixed income and credit sales

"I love the opportunity for development"

The position

The senior sales manager is responsible for a complex client portfolio, has extensive in-depth knowledge of the various products and knows how to combine the products.

My job

As a senior sales manager I'm responsible for advisory services and transaction execution towards my own and my team’s client portfolio. This portfolio includes issuers as well as investors in the domestic bond market. The issuers are typically municipalities, large corporates, banks and covered bond entities, whereas the investor universe mainly comprises fund managers, life and pension companies and bank treasuries.

My career

I started as a part-time employee in Nordea Markets in 2009 as an assistant credit analyst while I was completing my Bachelor degree at the Norwegian School of Management. The part time assignment offered me a unique opportunity to become familiar with the different product areas within Nordea Markets and to get to know people in the organisation. After having taken my degree I started working as a sales manager. Furthermore, I have completed Norwegian Society of Financial Analysts’ (NFF) Fixed Income Analysis programme.

Outside my job

When I'm not at work I particularly like travelling, skiing and cooking.

The best thing about being here

I love the opportunity for development. I've gradually been given new responsibilities in the position, and I feel challenged every day as I work with highly skilled colleagues and clients.
